Back in 1970, when Russia was part of the Soviet Union, there was a diamond crater discovered formed by an asteroid that fell at that place thousands of years ago. They didn't use its worth since the Soviet Union was very rich and produced there own gems but now that it is in-depended they start using it. It can't actually be used to create jewelry but can be used for the creation of unbreakable glass since from the force that the asteroid hit the Earth, it can't be 'broken down'. According to the article, it is a "supply that they claim is vast enough to fulfill global demand for at least, the next 3,000 years."
I think this is very interesting and can save Russia as a country if there is an economical need. The weird thing is that they knew that the gem's existence for more that 20 years and they didn't want to tell the rest of the world which is really weird.
